PENS GAME #10: PENGUINS VS. ISLANDERS
The Pens return from their perfect 4-game, cross-country trek in Canada to some much needed home cooking. They come back to town atop the Metropolitan Division and 3rd in the Eastern Conference to face a fellow Metro team in the New York Islanders.
Pittsburgh Penguins (6-1-2) vs. New York Islanders (5-4-1) at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, PA at 7 PM (EST)
The Penguins are still running like a freight train, beating the Canucks 5-0 on Saturday. They're now home and prepping for a "home and home" series against the Islanders. The first game in that set today in Pittsburgh and the rematch on Thursday in Brooklyn.
New York is on a 2-game win streak, but has ultimately looked rough this year. They're floundering down the standings in both the Metro Division and Eastern Conference overall. They're coming into this game looking for a big jolt from trying to knock off the Penguins, arguably the hottest team in the NHL. They've got a bit of a new grudge brewing against the Pens here too. As the Isles new head coach is the Pens' arch rival Washington Capitals' former coach Barry Trotz. Trotz has already been jabbing at the Penguins verbally in the press going into tonight. No matter that poking a very dangerous bear, might not be the best game plan for Trotz & the Long Island crew. But from their record it seems to be the best they can come up with it.
Now to the specifics....
