Pens Report Update: Site Upgrade Hiatus & More 2020 News
Pens Report has some site updates and house keeping plans to keep you apprised of scheduled for this off-season in preparation for the new upcoming NHL season. We're undergoing some exciting developments in order to better serve your hockey coverage needs as we continue to grow at a pace that constantly pushes the capacity of our web services providers.
We are going on hiatus from publishing new content here for the rest of the summer and into the beginning of fall. Since this is the usual quiet point of the hockey year we chose this period as we feel this should have as little impact as possible on our readers. However, there will still be uninterrupted Pens coverage on our main breaking news feed on Twitter @PensReport. We'll have any stray late-summer signings, Pens rookie tournament coverage, USHL Fall Classic coverage, and NHL training camp coverage over there in particular during the site's downtime.
This is "down" period is a necessary evil to upgrade the site to a new service plan and transfer the data over to that subscription. We then have to manually transfer our prior archived articles from our prior web hosting companies, which will be a lengthy process.
We will also be upgrading our service plan to premium package that will increase our site downloading speed and provide us with a specialized version of the site just for mobile readers. As our current site's plan is clunky and slow to load on handheld devices and was increasingly becoming issue as people are accessing their sports information from smartphones will on the go more than ever. Download speeds will no longer hinder readers when they're on the Pens Report mobile site.
Finally, we have some staff and alumni updates for the 2020 season. Site manager A.C. Robinson has taken a new role as NHL Player Update Editor editing daily player updates for Rotoworld.com.
Writer Rob Joncas is being featured at PensLabrynth.com
Former writers Cassy Anders took a job writing for PensBlog.com and former minor league reporter Andrew Grimm has taken the role of sports and general news reporter at the Steubenville Herald-Star and Weirton Daily Times.
It's an exciting thing to see our talented contributors succeeding on such an amazing scale in Penguins' coverage, sports, and general journalism. Congratulations to everyone on their incredible new career steps!
